Northborough Art Guild celebrates 50th season

Northborough – As part of the 50th season of the Northborough Art Guild, longtime members greeted exhibitors and guests to its 49th annual Craft Fair, held Oct. 27 at the Peaslee Elementary School cafeteria. Admission for guests was still only 50 cents. Diane Lyford, a guild member for 20 years and vice president for 10 years, understands the interest in the venue.

Northborough - When Dina Fraize became pregnant with her third son, she hired a doula (professional labor support/coach) to provide emotional, physical and informational support during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. The word "doula" comes from ancient Greek, meaning "woman's servant." Having a doula proved to be a wonderful experience for Fraize and her husband who hired a doula for their next two pregnancies. Following the birth of her fifth son in 2001, Fraize decided that she, too, wanted to offer other women the same encouragement and support that her doula had given to her.

Selectmen laud Northborough's Homecoming Celebration

Northborough - Each year the Northborough High School Alumni Association holds a Homecoming Celebration. At the Board of Selectmen's Sept. 24 meeting, Richard Sargent, a representative from the association, made a short presentation to the board previewing this year's event, the 140th Homecoming Celebration. This year's Homecoming Day will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Northborough Senior Center. Registration will begin at noon at the Senior Center, followed by the Homecoming celebration at 1:30 p.m., and end with a cocktail hour at Giuseppe's Grille, 35 Solomon Pond Road. The annual event draws between 100 to 125 people from around the country. Last year, the oldest attendee was a graduate of the Class of 1940.

Northborough color guard participates in POW/MIA Day

Northborough - On the third Sunday of September, a special ceremony is held aboard the battleship USS Massachusetts in Battleship Cove, Fall River, to honor those members of the military who are still considered prisoners of war or missing in action (POW/MIA). The event is sponsored by the American Legion's POW/MIA committee. At this year's POW/MIA Day held Sunday, Sept. 16 the color guard from the American Legion Vincent F. Picard Post 234 in Northborough had the honor of presenting the colors at the beginning of the ceremony. The event is sponsored by the American Legion's POW/MIA committee.
