Turkey Trot raises $5,500 for Northborough Food Pantry
Northborough – Over two hundred walkers and runners did not let snowy conditions stop them from participating in the seventh annual Thanksgiving Day 5k Turkey Trot held Nov. 27. The annual event, organized by Northborough residents Rita Matraia and Maggie Kosovsky, raised $5,500 this year for the Northborough Food Pantry.
Shrewsbury man volunteers for Peace Corps in his ‘golden years’
Ed Wilson, a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer at the Senior Center in Shrewsbury, first heard about the Peace Corps in the early 1960s. At that time he had finished a stint in the Army, was involved in his career and raising a family.

Shrewsbury church contributes 6300 boxes to “Operation Christmas Child”
Shrewsbury – A truck loaded with more than 6,300 shoe boxes is on its way from Shrewsbury to deliver Christmas gifts to children in over 130 countries, as part of the efforts of the international Christian relief group, Operation Christmas Child. The boxes, which are packed with toiletries, school supplies, toys and clothing, will be part of the shipment that will be delivered to 8.5 million children worldwide.

Marlborough man establishes fundraiser to help victims of Nepal earthquakes
Marlborough – On March 15, Marlborough resident Lee Miller traveled to Nepal where he spent time trekking through two connected areas - the Manaslu Circuit and the Tsum Valley. He returned home to Marlborough April 15 – 10 days later Nepal was rocked by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that killed more than 8,800 people and injured more than 23,000. On May 12, the region suffered another huge earthquake, this one a 7.2 magnitude.

Humble hero credits “right spot, right time”
Like so many others on Dec. 24, 2012, Ted Coghlin and his granddaughter Roselyn were out doing last-minute errands. But when they pulled into the parking lot of the Stop & Shop on Route 9 in Shrewsbury, things quickly went awry when Coghlin suffered a sudden medical emergency. But thanks to the quick actions of one man, Charlie Lemay, what could have ended in tragedy instead ended in the best gift Coghlin and his family could ever get – his life was saved.
