Hudson – Shirley M Barreira, 88, a longtime resident of Hudson, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. Shirley was the wife of the late Joseph Barreira, who passed in 2003.
Born in Hudson, she was the daughter of Wilfred (Buster) Morel and Alice Mary Catherine Cronin Morel. She was a 1945 graduate of St. Michael’s Academy, and was employed by the Hudson Light and Power Company for several years.
Shirley enjoyed her social life and her girlfriends. She was a member of the Emblem Club, the Hudson Women’s Club, and the Catholic Daughters for many years. She referred to the gatherings that followed at Keepers 2 or Checkerboards as some of her favorites. Shirley also had a special fondness for New York City, Broadway shows, and Sardis restaurant, where she was well loved and always treated like visiting royalty.
A graveside service was held Dec. 19 at Forestvale Cemetery of Hudson.
