George F. “Gumper” Swanson, 82Hudson – George F. “Gumper” Swanson, 82, a longtime resident of Hudson, died Saturday Aug. 20, 2011 at UMass Memorial Healthcare, Belmont Street Campus in Worcester. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Irene (Brissette) Swanson of Hudson.

Born in Pittsburgh, Penn., son of the late Forrest and Lillian (Wright) Swanson, he was raised in Hudson where he attended local schools. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy until being honorably discharged in 1947.

Mr. Swanson was employed as a purchasing agent by Assurance Technologies Corp. of Carlisle for many years until his retirement in 2010. He spent 59 years as a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, Worcester Chapter, and spent time as the manager of the former Hudson CYO Royal Jades. He spent many years as an active member and goalie with the Hudson Old Timers Hockey League.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his three children, Claudia Allshouse and her husband Dwight of Baltimore, Md., Janice Crossman and her husband Bob of Hudson, and Gary Swanson and his wife Kama Jayne of West Boylston; his seven grandchildren, Ken, Jared, Devin and Jeremy Munroe and Elizabeth, Amanda and Isaac Swanson; his three sisters, two brothers; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Gabriel Swanson, and by a brother and sister.

A funeral service will be held Thursday Aug. 25, at 11 a.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc., 50 Central St., Hudson. Burial is to be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held Wednesday Aug. 24, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
