Algae alert for Westborough's Lake ChauncyWestborough – Lake Chauncy may be closed for public swimming now that summer is over but there are some “water lovers” that haven's received that message – namely, cyan bacteria – a form of blue-green algae. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has issued an advisory that this algae, which creates the appearance of pea soup and is capable of producing toxins that can be dangerous to humans and pets, has been discovered in the lake.

Locals have been warned to avoid the water. But if they or their pets come in contact with it, it should be rinsed off immediately and obviously, the water should not be swallowed. Officials said the problem should resolve itself over the next few weeks.
