The C.A. six tips of the day for May 1

30

Region –Today is Tuesday, May 1, the 122nd day of 2012.

The C.A. six tips of the day for May 1On this day in 1931, the Empire State Building in New York City was formally dedicated. Until the World Trade Center was built in 1972, the Empire State Building was the tallest building in the world. It is 102 stories and 1,250 feet high (1,454 feet to the top of the lightning rod.) The building was constructed ahead of schedule, in just over a year, and at a cost of $40 million, which was under budget.

And in other lofty news, on this day in 1963, James Whittaker of Redmond, Washington, became the first American to reach the summit of Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.

Today's birthday include a number of musical stars including country superstar Tim McGraw (1967), Ray Parker, Jr., probably best known for his hit theme from the movie “Ghostbusters,” (1954), Rita Coolidge, the wife of Kris Kristofferson and a fine singer herself (1945) and the legendary Judy Collins (1939).
