Westborough – While Veterans Freedom Park is a pleasant place to stroll and enjoy the outdoors, there is a contentious battle brewing between residents and dog walkers who don’t pick up after their pets.
To address the issue, Town Manager Jim Malloy has proposed that the Board of Selectmen “dump” their traditional signage that threatens fines in favor of what is referred to as “emotionally intelligent signage.” He believes that residents will be more likely to comply if a sign's message creates “empathy.” Instead of a harsh approach, Malloy is proposing signs that encourage cooperation like “Our children play here; please pick up after your dog.”
