Northborough/Southborough – Algonquin Regional High School's (ARHS) John Friday (#13, right) applies the tag to Xaverian High School's (XHS) Chris Hoyt during the State Final in Worcester.?Hoyt was out on the play.
The Algonquin baseball team had a strong playoff performance that carried them into the State Final against XHS June 16 at Hanover Insurance Park. ARHS was the #10 seed (last) and knocked off Burncoat High School, St. Peter Marian High School, and the top seed St. John's High School to reach the state playoffs, where they defeated Westfield High School to reach the State Final.
ARHS got on the board first with a run in the top of the second inning, and XHS didn’t answer with two runs until the bottom of the fifth inning.?XHS then burst out for four runs in the bottom of the sixth, with a final run in the bottom of the seventh. ARHS wasn’t able to score any more runs, so the final tally was 7-1 in favor of XHS.
