Michael Abu, 87Southborough – Michael Abu, 87, of Southborough, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012.

He was born on November 23, 1924, and was a longtime resident of Framingham. During WWII, he was a U.S. Navy fighter pilot in the Pacific Theatre. Upon completion of his service, he graduated from Boston University.

For over 30 years, he was a successful restaurateur: Dairy Queen, Mister Hamburg, and Giovanni's in Marlborough and Acton. He was an avid golfer and member of the Framingham Country Club for many years.

Mike will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria (Piotti), married for 65 years, and their six children, Michele (Bill Carrick), Dorene (Peter Christie), David, Joel, Karen (Carney), and Alicia (Simmons). He was grandfather to Peter and Sean (Christie), Michael (Carrick), and Connor, Mackenzie, and Baylee (Simmons), and great-grandfather to Ava, Carson, Ryan, Bennett, and Elsie (Christie). He is also survived by his sisters, Emma Daboul, Dolores Smith and Virginia Maboub. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, one of whom is Andrew Abu (Jane Abu).

Calling hours will be held Friday, July 27, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main St., Ashland. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 28, 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church, 20 Church St., Hopkinton.
