Shrewsbury – Andrew V. DeMalia, of Shrewsbury, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 in Saint Vincent Hospital. He was 82.

Andrew was born September 5, 1930 in Worcester, a son of the late Andrew and Mary (Casale) DeMalia. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School and honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On July 25, 1959 he married Elaine D. Stavros in Our Lady of Mount Carmel – St. Ann Church in Worcester and they have been Shrewsbury residents since 1960.

He worked as a compositor for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette for over 30 years before retiring. He was a member of Shrewsbury Retired Men's Club and the Ray Stone Post American Legion #238. He was a communicant of Saint Benedict Abbey in Still River. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and working around his house.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Elaine, he leaves his brother, William A. DeMalia and his wife, Teresa, of Shrewsbury; many nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Andrew's life by gathering for calling hours Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, and Wednesday morning, Oct. 24, in Saint Benedict Abbey, 252 Still River Rd., Still River, where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
