Marlborough – A beautiful sunny and crisp day set the scene for the annual Veterans Day Parade in Marlborough. Main Street was filled with eager attendees. Participating in the parade were members of the Marlborough High School and Middle School Marching Band, Bob Page, parade coordinator for the Marlborough Veterans Council, city officials including Mayor Arthur Vigeant, guest speaker Brigadier General Paul G. Smith, School Committee members, veterans, Scout troops, and the Honor Guard.
The parade began at 10 a.m. in front of the American Legion on Maple Street and continued on to Main Street stopping at monuments along the route. Members of the community and surrounding towns lined the street and curbs, some holding patriotic flags and signs thanking the troops. Others shook
the hands of veterans standing near them, thanking them for their service.
Page has been the parade coordinator for the past eight years and is a veteran of the United States Army.
“I absolutely love being a part of this and anything that has to do with veterans. I think the most challenging part of this day is getting everyone out on time,” he said.
Students from Marlborough's Advanced Math and Science Academy (AMSA) sang “God Bless America” and encouraged the crowd to join the singing.
“A veteran is someone who, at some point wrote out a check to the United States of America for up to and including “all of my life.” Thank you for keeping your promise, wherever you served,” said guest speaker
Smith.
Everyone dispersed listening to the band play the “Star Spangled Banner.”
