Region – Middle-school aged girls are invited to attend the 9th annual Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Conference Saturday, March 28, from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Algonquin Regional High School, 79 Bartlett St., Northborough. Hosted by the Northborough Junior Woman’s Club and free of charge, this half-day event encourages girls to explore careers in the STEM fields and build connections with local women who have expertise and professional degrees in these fields. After an opening presentation, the girls will be able to attend four 40-minute interactive hands-on career workshops. Presenters will represent a variety of fields, including forensic chemistry, robotics, architecture, DNA extraction, medicine, surgery, engineering and veterinary medicine. The presenters will explain what they do in their occupation, share different tips on courses of study and ways to train for their profession, and provide hands-on exploration/activities. A luncheon will follow the workshops and offer an opportunity for the students and presenters to continue discussions in a more informal setting.
Registration forms are available at www.northborojuniors.org and need to be postmarked or emailed by Tuesday, March 17. Enrollment is limited to the first 120 girls.
