Shrewsbury – Thomas M. McCabe, of Shrewsbury, died March 4, 2015 after a period of failing health. He was 86.
Tom was born June 15, 1928 in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of Patrick and Catherine (McGoldrick) McCabe. He married Marie D. Grande Feb. 3, 1951 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Brooklyn. They lived many years in Brooklyn, Queens, and later on Long Island in Seaford. They retired to Sarasota, Fla. in 1983. Tom honorably served his country during World War II in the United States Army, in which he received the Purple Heart.
Professionally, Tom began his work career as a foreman at Dreyfuss Card Company in Brooklyn, and for over 25 years he owned and operated Tom’s Maintenance Service on Long Island.
Tom had a natural knack for landscape and with his green thumb he loved working in his yard and it was the envy of the neighborhood. A proud veteran, he was past commander of the William M. Gouse Jr. VFW Post 3211 in Hicksville, N.Y. Faithful to his native New York, he was a loyal NY Mets baseball fan.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, Marie, he leaves his children, Deborah A. Corvini and her husband Stephen of Plymouth, Thomas M. McCabe and his wife Georgia of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Isabel M. Talentino and her husband Richard of Shrewsbury; his grandchildren, Thomas, Jennifer and Matthew McCabe, Alycia Corvini, and Patrick and Victoria Talentino; and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Matthew, John, Joseph, and William McCabe and Rosemary Rizzo, Eileen DeLuca, Jeannette Razzin, and Catherine McCabe.
Family and friends will honor and remember Tom’s life by gathering Saturday, March 28 in Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury, where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. There are no calling hours.
