Richard A. Fernberg, 89, of Marlborough

177

Obit Richard FernbergMarlborough – Richard A. Fernberg, 89, passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2015 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 65 years, Teresa (O’Malley); his children, Barbara Renzi, Richard Fernberg and his wife Deb, William Fernberg and his wife Elizabeth, and Mary McCormick; his grandchildren, Sean and Julia McCormick, Sara Tejado, Andrew and Christopher Renzi, Megan Caroro and John Louis Fernberg, and Tyrod Jarrod Fernberg; great-grandchildren, Devon and Derik Caroro and Halima Tejado; his sister, Louise Karlberg; and John McCormick, who was like a son to him.

Richard was born Sept. 9, 1926 in Dorchester, son of the late Mary (McGuire) and William Fernberg. His roots were in Boston where he grew up before joining the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS LST-840 during World War II. He settled in Marlborough with his wife Teresa where they raised their family.

For 30 years Richard worked as an Engineering Supervisor at GTE Sylvania, but those who knew him would share that work was not what defined him. Richard prized time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the family that was such a source of pride to him. In the fall you were likely to find him watching his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish or New England Patriots play football. His quick wit and sense of humor was always present, and later in life he and his wife Teresa built close friendships in the community in Wells, Maine where they lived.

All are invited to gather with Richard’s family and friends Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton, followed by the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 17 Waterville St., North Grafton. Burial with military honors will be private at his family’s convenience.
