Southborough – Fortunately, flying weather conditions were good Dec. 5 for families attending the 38th annual Santa Day to see the special guest land by helicopter on St. Mark’s School field in Southborough. Handling crowd control were members of Boy Scout Troop 92.
Afterward, children shared their gift requests with Santa at the Community House where refreshments were served. Students from Fay School assisted as Santa’s helpers. Musical entertainment was provided by members of the Algonquin Regional High School Chamber Choir under the direction of Katherine Waters.
Santa has arrived to this event by helicopter every year except two when inclement weather grounded him. Each time, the Southborough Fire Department came to the rescue and transported him by fire truck. That most recent change of transportation occurred last year.
The longtime tradition is organized by Southborough Kindergroup, a cooperative playgroup. Jocelyn Gregory served as this year’s event chair. Guests were encouraged to bring items to be donated to the Southborough Food Pantry.
