Shrewsbury – At its weekly meeting Jan. 12, Shrewsbury selectmen approved a change of manager for Price Chopper #229 at 733 Boston Turnpike. Theresa Broderick was approved to replace James Carlson Jr. as manager and for transfer of the store’s All Alcoholic Beverage and Common Victualler licenses. The board took the opportunity to thank Broderick for the store’s commitment to recycling its shopping bags.
A public hearing to review the application for a Class II license increase for auto storage at Mobile Service Center at 285 Boston Turnpike from 16 to 25 cars was postponed in order for required paperwork to be completed.
In other business, Town Manager Daniel Morgado mentioned that he and Selectmen Chair Moira Miller had visited a hearing in Boston in the company of State Rep. Hannah Kane (R-Shrewsbury) to pursue an increase in the number of liquor licenses Shrewsbury may grant. The Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission’s decision is pending.
An agenda item dealt with reviewing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to ensure the town met its obligation to employees. Morgado noted that action is required both by the ACA and the state when an employer has more than 50 employees, as is Shrewsbury’s case. The town has available a stock policy that would meet both ACA and Massachusetts requirements. Morgado recommended that all eligible employees be made aware of this potential policy, adding that the only cost associated with such a move would be in determining such eligibility. The proposal was passed unanimously.
