Grafton – Grafton’s Senior Center Chorus performed an end-of-season concert May 20, featuring Broadway show songs, rock ‘n’ roll music and fun tunes, at the Senior Center to a packed house of seniors who sang along and laughed with the group.
“Donna Blanchard of Apple Tree Arts asked us three years ago if we wanted to start up a chorus at the center,” said Barbara Connelly, senior center director. “In the beginning we had only a few members; now the chorus has grown to include 22 seniors. It’s a fabulous addition to our senior center and has been well received by the community.”
The Senior Center chorus meets once a week on Friday mornings under the direction of Blanchard, Apple Tree Arts’ executive director, and accompanied by pianist Elizabeth Mack.
The group often performs at community events like Grafton Lions Club dinners and State Senator Michael Moore’s annual Thanksgiving dinner for seniors. Last December the chorus sang Christmas songs with Grafton Middle School students at the center.
After a brief summer hiatus, the chorus will start rehearsing again in late September. New members are welcome to join in the fall. Contact the senior center at 508-839-9242 for more information.
