Northborough – The Northborough annual Tree Lighting will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m., at the corner of Blake Street and Route 20. This year’s celebration will feature a children’s chorus singing holiday carols, holiday bells for the children to ring, hot cocoa, and cookies (while supplies last). Pizza is being donated by Northboro House of Pizza. Monetary donations will be asked for the pizza, and will go directly to the Northborough Food Pantry.
The annual tree lighting began in 1968 in honor of the memory of Neil Ellsworth, an Army private first class, who was killed in Vietnam in 1967 at the age of 19. The event is sponsored by Jacob Stein Family Dentistry, Wegmans, Starbucks and Panera.
This event will be the grand finale to the Northboro Holiday Trolley, a ride up and down Main Street from 12-5 p.m., sponsored by local merchants and small businesses. A raffle will be held at the tree lighting for those patrons who participated in the trolley collecting raffle tickets from retailers and restaurants along the route.
