How do you describe Advanced Skincare Solutions?
“Advanced Skincare Solutions is a private studio offering specialized facial services to clients with skin sensitivities, acne, rosacea, pigmentation and aging,” said Tina Malooly McCaffrey, a licensed skincare therapist and laser technician, who opened in Northborough in March. She has been in the skincare business for 30 years.
“My entire approach is based on a holistic foundation that takes aim at the origin of imbalances to impart real change. Your skin reflects how healthy you are on the inside.
“Each client is treated individually since no one is alike in their skin challenges, lifestyle, season of life and stress level.”
What services do you offer?
“I provide advanced facial treatments and various aesthetic services. These services are customized to an individual’s needs. My focus is to educate clients and help them achieve their skincare goals.
“Everyone thinks a facial is pampering, but it’s more about the health of the skin. We focus on rejuvenating and balancing the skin tissue.
“I’ve worked with a plastic surgeon and dermatologists, and we have found that aging and underlying skin disorders often result from vitamin deficiency. People deplete vitamin A every day just being out in the sun, so they need to replenish it topically. Stress, hormones and the environment deplete antioxidants and vitamins, which leads to premature aging and even pre-cancerous lesions.
“Many practitioners treat this business like a restaurant with a menu of services and clients pick treatments because they sound good. I don’t. It takes years of experience and a trained professional to understand what would be the best protocols for you.
“It usually takes more than one type of equipment and treatment to get the sustainable result, so I charge by the time I spend with the client, not by the piece of equipment that I use. When a client comes in, I discuss what types of equipment we might use and what combination will yield results.
“Our services include microdermabrasion, and, for sensitive skin, an ultrasound facial using water. We have a cupping device to detoxify the skin with gentle massage, and devices for skin tightening and muscle toning. We offer facials and peels, and intense pulse light laser hair removal.” A detailed description of the services available is on the website, www.northboroughskincare.com.
When someone comes in for the first time, what should they expect?
“I ask people to come in with ‘their face in a bag’; bring in everything they use on their face. I ask what they want, what they are here to achieve, what they need help with. It’s not a one-time visit but a partnership to achieve those goals. We develop a program of treatments, products and home care to get results.
“Most people need a series of at least five treatments. It takes a whole month of using a product for the cellular turnover that makes it effective. In the old days, treatments were very aggressive. We’ve realized those aggressive treatments can do more harm than good, and we’ve gone to a gentler, non-inflammatory way of rejuvenating the skin.”
And you sell skincare products as well?
“Yes. A lot of my products are custom-ordered. They are made in small batches and delivered fresh. They don’t have a lot of preservatives. I have my own custom line of products that includes face washes and vitamin-infused lotions and moisturizers,” said McCaffrey, who studied cosmetic chemistry at UCLA.
Advanced Skincare Solutions is open by appointment only.
