Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Democratic Town Committee (DTC) will honor five local activists next month at its biennial Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Awards brunch Sunday, Nov. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at Highfields Golf & Country Club, 42 Magill Drive, Grafton.

Every two years, the committee honors local democratic activists, leaders, and young people at the event, which began in 1997. Nominations are submitted by committee members and chosen for their hard work on political and civic causes, and for their commitment to the community. In celebration of 20 years of the Eleanor Roosevelt awards, a new honor will be inaugurated this year celebrating the distinguished service of an activist. The first recipient of that honor will be Nancy Woron, who currently serves as secretary of the committee.

Other honorees include Missy Hollenback, Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award; Jason Molina, Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award; Carlos Garcia, Outstanding Youth Award; and Kerry Shea, Outstanding Youth Award.

“We’re very excited about this year’s honorees,” said Jason Palitsch, chair of the Democratic Town Committee. “Nancy, Missy, Jason, Carlos and Kerry have all made activism an important part of their lives, and are a great example for others looking to get involved. This is a group of people who are engaged at all levels, from municipal issues of importance to them to races for federal office. I’m in awe of their contributions, and can’t wait to celebrate them.”

Tickets are $45 each, and can be purchased online at www.ShrewsburyDemocrats.org. Tickets can also be purchased by mailing a check made payable to the Shrewsbury DTC, along with a name and telephone number, to Shrewsbury DTC, c/o Jason Palitsch, Chair, 16 South St., Shrewsbury MA 01545. Note that purchasing a ticket to the event constitutes a political contribution to the Democratic Town Committee, and is not tax-deductible; corporate contributions are prohibited by law.
