Otto L. Kunz, 80, of ShrewsburyShrewsbury – Otto L. Kunz, 80, of Shrewsbury, formerly Worcester and Freeport, L.I. N.Y., died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 after a long battle with renal disease.

He was a graduate of LaSalle Military Academy and Manhattan College. Otto was an only child and first generation American born in Oceanside, N.Y. to German immigrants, Otto and Lottie Kunz. He was a lifelong restaurateur. Most notably, after his father’s death, he took over the family business and became the proprietor of the Sea Breeze Restaurant located on the waterfront in Freeport, N.Y. and then of the Alcove Tavern also on Long Island.

Otto moved to the Worcester area in the 1980s and held various maitre’d and bartending positions in Worcester until his retirement.

He was an avid sports fan and always rooted for the local teams. He also enjoyed spirited political debates over an ice cold beer.

Otto is survived by his five children, Otto E. and his wife, Karen, Cathy Boulay and her husband, Steven, Jim and his wife, Nivin, all of Shrewsbury, Chris of Manchester, Conn., and Bill and his wife, Teresa, of Weymouth. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Otto’s family Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury, with a prayer service at 1 p.m. His interment will be held at a later date at Holy Rood Cemetery on Long Island, N.Y.
