Hudson – Maria B. Monteiro, 98, of Hudson, passed away peacefully at her home Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She joins her beloved husband, Manuel P. Monteiro, who passed away in 1991.
Maria was born and raised on the Azorean Island of Santa Maria, the daughter of the late Bernadino De Braga Bettencourt and Ana De Jesus Almanda Braga. She married the love of her life Manuel P. Monteiro and later on they immigrated to Hudson on August 26, 1966, where she resided until she passed away.
True to her Portuguese heritage, Maria loved to cook, bake and spend time with her family. She also enjoyed knitting. Maria was a long-time member of Saint Michael Parish in Hudson.
Maria is survived by her six children, son Jose B. Monteiro, daughter Maria Ines B. Monteiro, son Tony B Monteiro and his wife Laura, son John B. Monteiro and his wife Adelaide, daughter Almerinda M. Bent and her husband James, and daughter Genevieve M. Breton and her husband Peter, all of Hudson; a sister, Helena Tavares of British Columbia, Canada; six grandchildren, Melissa McIntyre and her husband Shawn, Vanessa Monteiro, Jason Monteiro and his wife Irene, Daniel Monteiro, Nicole Breton and Grace Breton; and four great-grandchildren, Patrick and Mariana McIntyre and Evan and Siena Monteiro. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her siblings, Antonio Braga, Rosa Braga, Jose Braga, and Joao Braga.
Maria was a patient of Divine Home Health Care, operated by Josie McDonald in Marlborough, for many years. Maria enjoyed spending her days with her loving caregivers, with whom she developed a very special bond. Maria considered Eleuza, Roseni, Marie and Zilda part of her extended family. She loved them deeply.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 2 at Saint Michael Parish of Hudson, with final committal services at Saint Michael Cemetery. Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home handled arrangements.
