Region – With support from the Asian American Commission of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Asian American Pacific Islander caucus, Governor Charlie Baker signed a proclamation officially designating the month of May as Asian American and Pacific Islander’s month.

“We are proud and honored that you folks have chosen to make your communities part of our communities,” said Baker at the signing May 1. The ceremony was witnessed by Asian American Pacific Islander caucus Rep. Tackey Chan, Rep. Donald Wong, and Rep. Rady Mom as well as representatives of other elected officials.

“And thanks to this governor for his support for the Asian American community,” said Commissioner Jonjy Ananth of the Asian American Commission, who is also a resident of Shrewsbury.

The act requires the governor to annually issue a proclamation setting apart the month of May as the Asian American Pacific Islander month in recognition of the significant contributions Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have made to the commonwealth and to the United States.
