Longmeadow – Elizabeth Ann Keane (Cooney), 79, of Longmeadow, formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away Aug. 30, 2018. She leaves her loving husband, Timothy F. Keane of almost 53 years.

She is survived by two sons, Michael F. Keane and Christine Culver and their two children, Katherine and Seamus Keane of Connecticut, Timothy J. Keane and his wife Jennifer and their two children, Abigail and Cooper Keane of Longmeadow. Elizabeth also leaves a sister, Joan Brenner of Shrewsbury; sister-in-law Susan Cooney of Littleton; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Jack Cooney.

She was born in Worcester to John and Helen (O’Loughlin) Cooney. She grew up on Union Hill and attended grammar and high school at the Ascension School. She recently attended her 60th High School Reunion and was delighted to spend time with the “Ascension Girls.”

She graduated from Mount Wachusett Community College and enjoyed a career as a teacher’s assistant at Worcester Central Catholic School for many years.

She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, going to the beach, exploring her Irish heritage through genealogy, and travel. Included in her explorations were Ireland, England, Spain, France, Canada, Mexico, Aruba, Jamaica and her favorite Cape Cod.

The family wishes to thank the staff and Rabbi Jacobson at the Jewish Nursing Home for all their support.

Relatives and friends will celebrate Elizabeth’s life Thursday, Sept. 6, from 5-7 p.m., at the Chiampa Funeral Home ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury. The funeral Mass for Elizabeth will be Friday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m., at St. John’s Church, 44 Temple St., Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery of Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Covenant House in New York or to the American Cancer Society.
