Michelena BibeauShrewsbury – Michelena (Protano) Bibeau, 98, of Shrewsbury, died peacefully Nov. 2, 2018 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Her husband, Henry Bibeau, died in 1976.

“Mickey” is survived by her daughter, Linda Correia and her fiancé Ronnie Gerardi of Shrewsbury, and her sister Jennie Duncan of Shrewsbury. Mickey was the proud grandmother to Jeffrey Warfield and his wife Margaret, Amy Lyn Kovac and her husband Joseph lV, and Lindsy Correia and her spouse Lindsay. She was the loving great-grandmother to Rose, Henry, Daniel, Joseph V, and several nephews and nieces. Michelena was predeceased by a daughter, Ann Marie Warfield, and a brother, Gaetano Protano, and three sisters, Vincenza Zeek, Rose Balcewicz, and Antoinette Provost.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Santo and Angelina (Lapomardo) Protano, and has lived in Shrewsbury for 62 years. She was a graduate of Commerce High School.

Mickey started working at the original Wonder Bar on Shrewsbury Street in 1964 and helped with the preparation of food, but mostly she was their most popular waitress for over 50 years before she retired.

Michelena had an infectious personality and was always the life of the party. She loved her family immensely and was always willing to help no matter what. She was a member of the Church of St Mary’s in Shrewsbury, and the Shrewsbury Senior Center where she loved to play bingo. Mickey enjoyed playing cards, cooking, gardening, and mostly being with her family. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Michelena’s funeral will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7 from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in the Church of St. Mary, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Calling hours to remember and honor Mickey will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 5-7 p.m., in the funeral home. Interment will be with her husband Henry in Notre Dame Cemetery.
