Shrewsbury – Irene A. (Michalak) Gregarczyk, 92, longtime Shrewsbury resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 18, 2019 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester.

Born and raised in Shrewsbury, Irene was one of thirteen children born to the late Kaszmir and Mary A. (Kolodosiecak) Michalak. She attended the Shrewsbury school system and later went to work for several local companies in Worcester, working for Telecron for many years. On November 5, 1949, she was married to the love of her life, Thaddeus T. Gregarczyk, and the pair built their own home in Shrewsbury, where they raised their daughters and have lived for 63 years.

Irene is survived by her devoted husband, Thaddeus; her children, Maria J. Cullen of Princeton and Carolyn A. Plante of Texas; her grandchildren, Ryan, Evan, Ian, Alessandra, and Jocelyn; her sister, Helene Johnson of Worcester; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Irene is predeceased by eleven of her siblings, the late Alfred, Edward, Henry, George, John, Katherine, Peter, Regina, Robert, Theresa, and Walter.

In her spare time, Irene enjoyed cooking for her friends and family, spending time in her garden, and canning fresh fruits and vegetables that she had grown.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Irene’s family between 9:30 and 10:30 AM on Monday December 23, 2019 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA, followed by her funeral Mass, which will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
