Marlborough Brigham Trust grant cycle openMarlborough – The Marlborough Brigham Family Trust has announced the start of its eighth year of grant-making to benefit the greater Marlborough community. For the past five years, approximately $45,000 per year was awarded to local charitable organizations by the trust.

In his will dated August 1997, Marlborough resident Ronald H. Brigham envisioned that his estate be used to “promote the general good and the community welfare of the Marlborough Middlesex County area” upon his passing. The charitable trust envisioned by Brigham when writing his will 16 years ago became a reality in 2013, when the trust awarded more than $25,000 in grants.

Marlborough nonprofits seeking financial support for programs and activities that directly benefit the Marlborough community can apply for up to $6,000 in grant funds. Each grant application must be in the form of a 500-word (maximum) essay that delineates the target beneficiaries, the goals of the program/activity, the amount being requested and a brief explanation of any other funding sources. Applicants must also include proof of their 501(c)(3) status.

Applications should be mailed to Marlborough Brigham Family Trust, P.O. Box 221, Marlborough, MA 01752 and must be postmarked by Saturday, Oct. 4, 2020.
Trustees will screen applications and identify those most aligned with the spirit of the trust for follow-up. Potential recipients may be requested to submit project/activity budgets and copies of 990 Forms and Board of Directors/leadership information, plus agree to an interview by the trustees if requested.

Applicants who have received a previous grant from the trust must submit proof that those funds have been spent for the specific use for which the grant was awarded. This may be in the form of paid invoices, pictures, etc.
