Bertha E. PorterClermont, Fla./Northborough – Bertha E. (Capen) Porter, 93, of Clermont, FL, formerly a resident of Northborough for many years, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, January 27, 2021. She was the devoted wife of 52 years to Edward L. Porter until his death in 2006.

Bertha was born in Marlborough and raised in Natick, a daughter to the late Lawrence and Hazel (Coolidge) Capen. She lived in Natick for numerous years prior to moving to Northborough in 1971 and in 2011, she relocated to her present home in Clermont. Bertha worked for 25 years as a machinist for Engineering Plastics Corporation of Westborough, retiring in 1996.

Among some of her favorite past times were being with her family as they camped in Maine, New Hampshire, on Cape Cod and in Canada. She also enjoyed going on cruises and visits to Disney. Bertha loved to shop; most especially while searching out the perfect birthday or Christmas present for everyone in the family. She was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed keeping up with the grandchildren’s many activities. Bertha took pride in herself; right to her last days she kept her hair and nails just right. Her family will always cherish her adventurous characteristics, kind heart and beautiful smile.

Among those who survive Bertha are her five children, Kenneth Porter and his wife Linda of Clermont, FL, Scott Porter and his wife Dawn of Boylston, MA, Sharon Morse and her husband Stephen of Winter Garden, FL, Barbara Roach of Rochester, NY and Linda Rice and her husband Arthur of Bolton, MA. A son, Alan Porter, passed away in 2000. Bertha is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; all whom she adored, and her sister, Gail Catron of Virginia.

Due to the current Covid19 pandemic’s gathering restrictions, Bertha’s family has decided to keep her funeral service and burial private, for her family. Please consider directing any memorial donations in Bertha’s name to American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org)
