Gisèle A. PurrettaShrewsbury – Gisèle A. (Guedon) Purretta, 89, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2021. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all those who shared her life.

The daughter of Gustave and Cecile (Roussel) Guedon, she was born in Chaumont, France on May 10, 1931. Gisèle met her much loved husband Joseph at a dance hall in Chaumont. She was working as a secretary in a glove factory while Joseph was stationed at the U.S. Air Force Base in Chaumont.

Throughout most of her life she had a passion for knitting, crocheting, gardening, birds, flowers, and cooking. She loved to knit sweaters and other items for family and friends. Gisèle was a wonderful cook who enjoyed big family meals on the holidays. She looked forward to summer vacations and spending time with the family.

She leaves her children, John and his wife Gail Purretta of Leominster, Richard Purretta of Worcester, Daniel and his wife Linda Purretta of Shrewsbury, Michele and her husband Stephen Landry of North Grafton, Melissa Kelley of Natick, and Michael and his wife Deborah Purretta of Douglassville, Pa. She is also survived by her sister, Yvette Larche of Chaumont, France, along with 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Joseph T. Purretta, and brothers Pierro Guedon of Woippy, France and Daniel Guedon, of Sallanches, France.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, March 16, from 9 – 10:30 a.m., at Chiampa Funeral Home ~ 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. In keeping with the COVID-19 guidelines, all attendees are kindly asked to wear face coverings and practice social distancing while at the funeral home, church and cemetery.
