Northborough – The Northborough Board of Selectmen voted last month to move the annual town meeting from Monday, April 26 to Saturday, May 1.

The decision came at the recommendation of Health Agent Kristin Black, as officials aim to minimize the continued risk of COVID-19 transmission.

“Vaccinations aren’t going to be where we would like them to be in time for an April town meeting,” said Town Administrator John Coderre, addressing the particular topic of vaccine rollout.

As happened last year, 2021’s annual town meeting will take place outside at the Algonquin Regional High School football field at 9 a.m.

The Algonquin High School football field currently sits empty. Town Meeting will fill this space, next month, though.

The layout and the logistics of the meeting will follow the same protocols honed for that past event, which took place in the heat of July.

Moving the meeting will maintain the schedule of having town meeting prior to the annual town election to be held on Tuesday, May 11.

“The timeframe is less intrusive on the overall calendar of the town,” said Town Moderator Fred George. “The temperature should be reasonable. Things should move fairly smoothly.”

In the event of inclement weather, town officials have set a rain-date of Saturday, May 8.
