Albert R. JosephsonShrewsbury – Albert Raymond “Al” Josephson, 88, longtime Shrewsbury resident, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2021, after a long illness with Parkinson’s disease.

Al was born on August 17, 1932 in Worcester. He attended school in Shrewsbury and graduated from the Major Howard W. Beal Memorial High School in 1952. He worked many jobs before beginning his career at Morgan Construction in Worcester, then working for General Motors in Framingham, where he retired from before starting his own construction business. In addition, he spent the past 20 years assisting his son in his survey business, PN Associates.

Al married his wife, Carole M. (Benson) Josephson, on Sept. 11, 1954, and lived happily in Shrewsbury for many years until his death. They enjoyed traveling with the Greendale Men’s Club to Greece, Italy and Bermuda and continued to travel out of state, visiting their children and grandchildren. Al and Carole also loved spending time with each other visiting different casinos and going to dinner.

Al was an active man and was very involved in the Svea Gille Club in Shrewsbury, where he served as secretary for 25 years, the Masonic Lodge, Lutheran Home, and at the Shrewsbury Senior Center, delivering meals to the elderly for the Meals on Wheels program. He enjoyed playing tennis and golf and was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox and his son Paul’s long baseball career. His Grandchildren were a great sense of his joy and he spent many fun-filled years traveling to watch each of them play in all their different sports.

In addition to his beloved wife, Al is survived by his son, Paul Josephson and his wife Terri, and their children Matthew and David Josephson; two daughters, Linda Edwards and her husband Sam, and their children Samantha and Julie and Susan LaClair and her husband Randy; their children Justin and Alicia; and two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Olivia.

Al’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Rose Monahan Hospice for the comforting care they gave Al at his time spent there.

In keeping with Al’s wishes, funeral services will be private.
