WESTBOROUGH – Westborough Police K9 Lukas tracked a path through “a culvert pipe waist-deep in water” in search of one of three suspects in a four-town vehicle and foot pursuit, Sept. 3.

Lukas and his handler, Officer Caleb Polseno, eventually helped apprehend all three suspects and released them to the Milford Police Department according to a press release.

The region was briefly on alert as the pursuit, which began in Milford, snaked through area towns before ending in Westborough “at 495 North in the area of Route 9” police said.

The vehicle in question, a UHaul truck, allegedly fled an attempted traffic stop according to multiple media reports. Law enforcement continued in what Westborough police described as a pursuit “for drug-related offenses.”

Involving personnel from the State Police and a number of local law enforcement agencies, the chase led to Westborough. There, police say suspects fled on foot, over a guardrail and down an embankment after running out of gas.

Deployed to the scene, Polseno and K9 Lukas picked up a track, eventually helping locate a suspect “hiding near a tree.”

Polenso and Lukas later found and apprehended two additional suspects.

The incident prompted a visible police presence in the immediate area around where the UHaul in question came to a stop as Westborough police officers worked alongside State Police troopers and Milford officers to set up a perimeter.
