SHREWSBURY – Two Shrewsbury officers were recognized after they saved a baby’s life.
Officer Shawn Valliere and Detective Matthew Caola responded to a report of a one-year-old girl who wasn’t breathing on Sept. 22, according to a press release from the Shrewsbury Police Department.
Valliere and Caola began performing lifesaving measures including CPR and rescue breathing. The pair worked together with Shrewsbury firefighters and Worcester EMS paramedics to revive the baby.
The child was transported to UMass Memorial Hospital and survived.
“The emergency room physician credited the immediate actions of Officer Valliere, Detective Caola and other first responders with saving the life of the girl,” the department wrote.
Chief Kevin Anderson presented Valliere and Caola with letters of commendation on Nov. 3.
“We would like to commend Officer Valliere and Detective Caola for their excellent skills, heroic lifesaving actions and commitment to our great community,” the police press release said.
