WESTBOROUGH – After being held virtually last year, the eighth annual Westborough Turkey Trot returned to the roads of Westborough on a chilly Nov. 20.

A subcommittee of the Westborough Education Foundation, the 5K fundraiser supports public schools’ initiatives that aren’t covered by the school district’s annual budget. More than half of approximately 1,000 registered supporters of all ages ran or walked the 5K.

Rebecca Pringle, a Westborough High School (WHS) 2020 alum, sang the national anthem before the “trotters” started and finished the 5K at WHS.

Timothy Barry of Westborough, age 19 and also a WHS 2020 alum, finished first overall in 16:37. Linda Spooner of Sturbridge, age 47, was the first-place female finishing in 18:21.

Following the 5K, children ages 3 to 11 enjoyed a Kids Fun Run organized by Matt Travis, founder of the Potential-U.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, participants were encouraged to bring nonperishable items for the Westborough Food Pantry.
