REGION – The Algonquin co-op girls hockey team won its way into the Division II state quarterfinals on Wednesday night with a 2-0 win over Westwood.
The game took place on the road in Canton, with the 10th-ranked Titans upsetting seventh ranked Westwood.
Algonquin’s eventual game-winning goal came early when Mallory Farrell darted past opposing defenders on a breakaway. She tucked a backhand shot over the shoulder of Westwood’s goaltender for the 1-0 lead.
Algonquin is now getting set for a game on Saturday against Winchester. They’ll be back at North Star Ice Sports in Westborough, with home-ice advantage as they take on the 15th-ranked Winchester squad.
That game is set to start at 5 p.m.
