Maria P. MigliorelliShrewsbury – Maria Pia Palumbo Migliorelli, 80, of Shrewsbury, MA, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2022, at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. She was surrounded by her loving children. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 34 years, Marcello A. Migliorelli, in 2001.

Maria was born in Calabria, Italy, to Alessandro and Maria Miele Palumbo and was raised in Cassino, Italy. In the summer of 1973, she came to the United States to join her husband.

She leaves her son, Andrea Migliorelli and his wife Liu Min of Shrewsbury, her daughter Sonia Chaousis and her husband Michael C. Chaousis of Worcester, and her daughter Sandra Gardner and her husband Jason Gardner of Shrewsbury. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Anthony and Aiden Gardner and Jenna Migliorelli, as well as many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Assunta D’Annolfo, Rita and Gino Viapiano, Maria and Antonio Leone, Elvira Migliorelli, all of Worcester, and Maria Biantu of Cassino, Italy. Along with her husband and parents, Maria was predeceased by her brother Bruno Palumbo of Cassino, Italy, in 2000, and a brother-in-law, Ralph D’Annolfo in 1995.

Maria worked at UMass Memorial Hospital from the 1980’s as a housekeeper until retiring in the early 1990’s to enjoy time with her husband and family. She lived for her family, spending every day providing care, love, and kindness to those around her for as long as she was able to. Maria was a wife, mother, and grandmother of the truest form, and her legacy lives on with those who knew her.

There will be a calling hour on Monday, March 21 from 9:30-10:30 AM at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St, Worcester. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM in the funeral home following the calling hour, after which she will be laid to rest with her husband in the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum, 162 Webster St., Worcester.
