Julie V. DappalNorthborough – Julie V. (Marinelli) Dappal, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center of Northborough; she was 94 years old.

Julie leaves her two devoted daughters, Cheryl L. Zieba and her husband Richard and Deborah J. Ballard and her husband Mark, all whom reside in Northborough. She also leaves her three beloved grandchildren, Jeffrey J. Zieba and his wife Erica, Jennifer L. Kiernan and her husband James and Carlee M. Ballard and her two great-grandchildren, Jackson R. and Emerson E. Zieba, as well as several nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, Julie was the third of four children to Italian immigrants Joseph and Edith (DeSimone) Marinelli. She was a graduate of the Woodrow Wilson High School in Youngstown.

As a teenager, Julie met the love of her life one day in church, a handsome young man named Joseph Dappal. Julie worked during this time for the State of Ohio’s Unemployment Office. After Joe’s return from the service the couple married. This was the beginning of 70 years of sharing their lives together until Joe’s own passing in 2020. Julie is now reunited with her beloved “Papa Joe”.

In 1962 Julie and Joe relocated their family to Stow, MA and then to Chelmsford. For several years the young couple resided in Chelmsford where they raised their two daughters and made many happy memories. Julie worked at Chelmsford High School as a library aide and assisted her husband Joe, with the founding of the Russell Mill Swim Tennis Club. In late 2004 Julie and Joe relocated to Northborough.

Julie enjoyed travelling with Joe, whether it was for business or pleasure. Some of the more notable trips together were in England, Italy, Norway, Napa Valley, Las Vegas, Aruba and Bermuda. She also enjoyed spending time locally on Cape Cod. She was an avid card game player and enjoyed reading and doing puzzles. Julie also enjoyed relaxing with a special drink while super sleuthing the outcome of a whodunit mystery. Above all, Julie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She looked forward to spending as much time as possible with her family.

Calling hours will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough.
