Raul A. Cruz ValdezMarlborough/Antigua, Gautemala – The world lost an amazing human on May 29, 2022. Raul Armando Cruz Valdez, the beloved husband of Kerry Donovan de Cruz, lost a valiant fight with cancer. Throughout his life journey, Raul was loved by so many. He lifted up others in a humble manner with a generous heart and spirit.

Born in Morales Guatemala on December 14, 1964 to Raul Cruz (predeceased) and Maria Valdez Cruz, he is survived by his mother, his sister, Ingrid, her husband Carlos Cano, and their son Rodrigo, sister Ileana, her husband Mario Carrera, and their children Juan Jose and Daniela, and his brothers, Renoldo and Fernando Cruz Valdez.

Raul was a lover of life. He loved Kerry, his family, animals, and nature. Raul and Kerry shared a deep spiritual connection that will transcend time and space. He was a hard worker not afraid to get his hands dirty. His life was one dedicated to the service of others. For over 20 years, he welcomed and hosted people from around the world at his hostel, A Place to Stay in Antigua Guatemala. He had a way of lifting others up. Whether it was supporting a friend or neighbor, helping a homeless person, or helping stray animals, he went above and beyond in all he did. One of Raul’s favorite things to do was sit in his hammock with his cats. To learn more about the man Raul was, visit their trip advisor page at A PLACE TO STAY, BOUTIQUE HOSTEL – Reviews (Antigua, Guatemala) (tripadvisor.com) and read reviews written by guests.

Raul held a Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering and was fluent in several languages. He placed a very high value on education and its ability to transform his life and the lives of others. In the spirit of service and education, the Raul Cruz Valdez Scholarship Fund is being established.
