SHREWSBURY – Shrewsbury’s Town Hall has introduced new summer hours, effective May 31.

Town Manager Kevin Mizikar announced the change during the Board of Selectmen’s May 24 meeting.

These summer hours will remain in effect through Sept. 2.

As part of the change, operating hours will be extended on Tuesday to keep departments open from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Departments will then operate from 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays.

“We appreciate the opportunity to hopefully serve the residents better and give the employees a little…extra break on Friday afternoons,” Mizikar said.

Mizikar described these changes as being part of a pilot program to see if the additional hours are beneficial to town customers.

The town further noted in a press release that employees will still be working a full work week with these changes.

While other offices will open at 8 a.m., as part of summer hour changes, the Department of Public Works and Office of the Building Inspector will be open on weekdays starting at 7:30 a.m., aiming to better accommodate contractors and members of the public that work with their offices.

“We have staff in the office many days at 7:30 a.m. and the phone starts ringing,” Mizikar said. “So, hopefully we can accommodate folks at that time.”

SELCO will also open daily at 7:30 a.m. and will follow the Town Hall’s summer operating hours. Its help desk will still be available Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 508-841-8572 and at [email protected].

These changes will not affect the school department, the Shrewsbury Public Library and the Council on Aging.
