WESTBOROUGH – Hungry customers and local leaders gathered at the ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday for The Coop, which is a new restaurant in town that specializes in wings and barbecue.
The Coop owner Angelo Tsetsos joined the restaurant business 30 years ago when they opened a pizza shop in Millbury.
Five years ago, he decided to go out of his comfort zone and sell barbecue.
“The Coop came about,” Tsetsos said.
After opening a shop in Millbury, they decided to open this sister location in Westborough.
“We are so happy to be here,” Tsetsos said. “Once I saw the space, I fell in love with it. I am so thankful for the Town of Westborough as we’ve gotten a great response in our first few weeks open.”
The Coop was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Economic Development Committee, as The Coop is the first vacant storefront project in Westborough, and $10,000 in matching tax credits for building a storefront that had been vacant for an extended period of time.
Amongst those in attendance at the ribbon cutting was Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton), who said he was pleased Tsetsos decided to settle in Westborough and was looking forward to trying The Coop’s food.
“We are so excited to have you here in the community and to watch your business thrive,” said Sophia Flionis, who is with Rep. Hannah Kane (R-Shrewsbury). “We are so proud to have you here.”
Select Board Chair Ian Johnson said the board appreciated their efforts made to open the restaurant.
“This place is wonderful. What a great addition to our town,” Johnson said.
Tsetsos thanked the building department and the Select Board’s office, noting they were “super supportive” during the construction process.
