Frederick J. HennesseyHudson – Mr. Frederick J. Hennessey, of Hudson, formerly of Waltham, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 in Branches of Marlborough. He was 93.

Fred was born in Charlestown on January 2, 1929, a son of the late Frederick A. and Johanna (Coughlin) Hennessey. A graduate of Charlestown High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served during the Korean Conflict.

Following the Army, Fred worked as a machinist at Compo Industries where he met his wife in the Compo Bowling League. He attended Coyne Electrical School in Boston where he trained to be a licensed electrician, and ended up at the Polaroid Corporation where he worked for 23 years, until his retirement. In his later years he stayed busy volunteering for Meals on Wheels and the Council on Aging, and working occasional part-time roles for fun and golf money.

Fred and his wife, the late Mary E. (Flood) Hennessey, enjoyed travelling and especially loved spending time with their beloved grandchildren. Together they visited places near and far throughout the United States and took yearly trips to Bermuda. Retirement afforded Fred the ability to enjoy some of his favorite pastimes including golf and fishing, and he was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

In addition to his wife, Mary, who died on July 26, 2022, he was predeceased by his brother and sisters, the late John Hennessey, Theresa Frasu, and Marie Toscano.

He leaves his children, Kathleen P. Ciampa, and her husband, Richard, of Walpole, and Michael F. Hennessey, and his wife, Jessica, of Hudson; his grandchildren, Victoria, Alex, and Matthew Ciampa and Ryan, Jamie, and Katie Hennessey and many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Family and friends will honor and remember Fred’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham, on Friday, October 28th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Newton Cemetery.
