Sara F. ZaffrannShrewsbury – Sara Frances (Boynton) Zaffrann, 88, of Shrewsbury’s Southgate community, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert J. Zaffrann, with whom she was happily married for 52 years.

Sara, who also was known as Sally, was born and raised in North Easton and Harwich Port, Massachusetts. She graduated from Fitchburg State University (then Fitchburg Teacher’s College). She taught mathematics in Springfield, Massachusetts for three years before moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to take a job with IBM.

She joined the McKinley Tennis Club and met her husband, Bob, who was also a member. They were married on September 16, 1967 in Crystal Lake, Illinois, near her sister Grace’s home.

Sara worked for IBM for 10 years until 1969, when she took time off to lovingly raise her two sons. Sara later owned and operated The Postmark, a private post office and mailing service, in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. She earned a loyal base of customers, who constantly urged her to raise her prices to become more profitable, advice which she would always politely decline.

In her free moments, Sara enjoyed playing golf and tennis, and, most of all, spending time with her family, in whom she took tremendous pride.

Sara leaves her beloved sons, Robert C. Zaffrann and William C. Zaffrann; along with her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was also predeceased by her siblings, who she loved dearly: Gladys Boynton of Harwich Port, MA; Ruth Barnabic of Allendale, NJ; Grace Yeagle of Crete, IL; Frank Boynton of Springfield, VA, Herbert Boynton of Whitefield, NH; and their parents, Wellington David and Ruth (Peabody) Boynton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org/donate).

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
