Robert J. ReidyShrewsbury – Robert J. Reidy, 85, a longtime resident of Shrewsbury, died peacefully Thursday, March 23, 2023 in his home. His wife of 37 years, Carolyn S. (Jaworski) Reidy passed away in 2002.

Bob, son of the late Dennis J. and Gertrude (McSherry) Reidy, was born in Worcester on September 30, 1937. He was a graduate of South High School and College of the Holy Cross class of 1959. Bob served our country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1966.

Bob was an extremely proud and loving father of six, known as “Pop” to his ten grandchildren.   He was nothing short of an incredible father, grandfather and friend.  He enjoyed spending his younger days – when he wasn’t chasing his six kids – golfing, sailing and woodworking. Bob was a proud Holy Cross alumnus and a dedicated economics teacher at St. John’s High School for 38 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending the First Friday Club, seeing his friends at the local YMCA, and gardening with his partner Penny.

Bob has gone home, but his constant smile, huge heart, great sense of humor, the lessons he taught and his unconditional love for all will always be with us. We will miss his endless smile, sense of humor and endearing puns.

He is survived by two sons, James M. Reidy and his wife Christina and Timothy A. Reidy and his wife Jackie; four daughters, Kathleen Cullen, Susan E. Reidy, Patricia D. Reidy and Sharon E. Foley and her husband Neil; his beloved partner, Penny Benjamin; his sister, Janice Dubuque, ten grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers, Dennis and Richard and a sister, Denise.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2023 with a Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church, 120 Boston Turnpike Road, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.
