Berlin – Margaret “Peg” (Wheeler) Walcott, 91, passed away on August 28, 2022 after a lengthy illness, at home in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband, Willard Walcott, in 2001.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia (Sullivan) Taurasi of Wilmington, NC, Susan Sullivan of Ontario, NY, Pamela (Walcott) Standring of Greensboro, NC and Robin Walcott of Greensboro, NC; 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, William Wheeler.

Peg was born in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late, Alvah Wheeler and Hannah (Schmitt) Wheeler. Much of her childhood was spent in Chester County, Pennsylvania. She graduated from The Baldwin School, then earned degrees in Economics and Education from Wellesley College in 1953. She completed a Masters of Education Degree at University of North Carolina in 1954.

Peg taught Physical Education for more than 20 years. She officiated women’s high school lacrosse, field hockey, and basketball for many years. She lived in Lynnfield, MA for many years with her first husband. While raising her girls, Peg worked as a bookkeeper and a secretary. She was a Lay Minister and Vestry member at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for many years and had so many happy times with her church family. After her divorce, she was introduced by friends to Bill Walcott, who was truly the love of her life. They began a happy, active life in Hudson, MA, where she lived for over 20 years. Peg and Bill shared a love of family, pets, farm life, gardening, music and dancing, their community, and travel. In fact, they traveled the world.

After Bill’s death, Peg moved to Berlin, MA with her two schnauzers and her dear friend, Joan Gilchrist. She volunteered at Marlboro Hospital and was an election poll worker in Hudson. She was active with her dogs in obedience and agility trials for several years. Peg also enjoyed visiting assisted living and nursing facilities around the MetroWest area of MA with her trained Therapy Dogs. She was also an active parishioner at Church of the Nativity in Northborough. In 2017, she moved to Wilmington, NC to live closer to family.
