Catherine L. VintonShrewsbury – Catherine L. (Leahy) Vinton, 89, of Shrewsbury, adored mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home.

Catherine (Cathy) was born in Worcester, only child of the late Edward F. and M. Elizabeth (Greene) Leahy. She was raised in Milford, moving to Shrewsbury in her teens, graduating from the Major Howard W. Beal High School and continued her education, graduating from Dean College.

Catherine was predeceased by her beloved husband of 69 years, Richard F. (Dick) Vinton, in March of 2022. She leaves behind her children: Daniel Vinton, of Shrewsbury, Deborah Gallo and husband John, of Holden, Karen Guglielmello and husband Gary, of Paxton, and Richard Vinton and wife Jeanne, of Southborough; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three nieces. Catherine was predeceased by a great-granddaughter and many close friends, whom she thought of as sisters.

As a child and throughout her adult life, she spent summers at her family home in Harwich Port. She loved her summer home and looked forward to her family descending there each summer, creating everlasting memories. Having a love of the beach and ocean, she and Dick enjoyed the warmth of Aruba for part of the winter. Cathy and Dick loved to travel, visiting many states in the U.S. and many countries.

An accomplished professional, Catherine held positions within a tax/law publishing company and a commercial real estate company. With her skill for bringing people together, she helped form a networking organization for women in sales. After retirement, Cathy returned to school and became a travel agent, where she shared her love for travel with others.

Cathy had unending energy and a spirited nature, enjoying her bridge groups, bowling league, fitness and yoga classes and long walks on the beach. Catherine had a deep faith, teaching CCD, and was active within her church. She embraced her Irish heritage with her love of laughter, quick wit, and sense of community. But above all else, her family and friends were her world.

Those close to Cathy are invited to visit with the Vinton family from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. Her funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will be held privately for her family.
