SHREWSBURY – The Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library has awarded a scholarship to Shrewsbury High School graduate Sidney Adams.

Adams received the $1,500 scholarship at the Shrewsbury High School awards ceremony in May and was congratulated by the Friends in June.

President Vanessa Hale said the Friends were “overjoyed” to present the award to Adams.

“It was obvious to us that she was bubbling over with love and enthusiasm for the library,” said Hale. “As she looks forward to her college years, we are enriched by the many ways the Shrewsbury library has been able to help her prosper.”

As part of the application for the scholarship, the students were asked to write an essay on how libraries could provide enrichment for high school students.

In the press release, the Friends noted that Adams has spent many hours in the library, including walking there with her family while she was young, creating a Girl Scout section for her Bronze Award and practicing at the library with the high school’s speech and debate team.

Adams is the daughter of Jena and Douglas Adams. She plans to continue her education at University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Commonwealth Honors College with a focus on pre-legal studies.

“Congratulations to Sidney Adams on receiving the scholarship award,” said Library Director Priya Rathnam. “I wish her the best as she embarks on her academic journey at UMass Amherst.”
