Babysitting, ‘traffic light’ return to Westborough Town Meeting
Westborough Town Meeting will deliberate on 15 articles on Oct. 16.

WESTBOROUGH – The “ground rules” for Fall Town Meeting have been set.

Moderator John Arnold presented a few updates to the Select Board on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

The “traffic light” will return from last spring’s Annual Town Meeting; the light will signal when a speaker is getting close to their time limit (2.5 minutes for speaking, 10 minutes for presentations).

Babysitting will be available at the high school.

The Council on Aging will provide transportation to those who notify the COA by noon on Friday, Oct. 13.

Electronic voting will be available for one night only; if a second night is required, residents will vote by raising hands or by secret ballot (if a close vote is anticipated).

Microphones will be available for those wishing to speak. Volunteers from the Boy Scouts may provide “roving microphones” to those unable to stand; details are being finalized, according to Arnold.

Arnold said he hopes to have Town Meeting wrapped up in one evening, and acknowledges that the Community Center proposal – which are Articles 3 and 4 – will draw a lot of attention.

Town Meeting will convene at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, in the high school auditorium.
