Communities impose parking bans as winter storm nears

REGION – With the first big snow on the season coming late Saturday into Sunday, the following parking bans will be in place:

Marlborough – An emergency storm operations parking band will be in effect from Saturday at 5 p.m. to Monday at 8 a.m. All vehicles are required to be off the city streets during this time. Per the City of Marlborough General Code, vehicles on the street during this time will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Westborough — Per order of the Westboro Police, there will be a storm-related emergency parking ban on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. No on-street parking will be allowed. Violators may be towed at the owner’s expense.

In addition, the following communities have parking bans effective through the winter:

Grafton – The town asks to avoid parking in public places and along the roadside when a winter storm is forecast. Per town bylaw, any vehicle that interferes with the removal or plowing of snow may be ticketed and/or towed at the owner’s expense.

Hudson – No parking on all town streets through April 1 between midnight and 7 a.m. All-night parking is prohibited in the municipal parking lots on South Street between 2 and 7 a.m. until April 1, except those areas designated and posted as permitting overnight parking until 7 a.m. Vehicles parked illegally or abandoned on roads are subject to towing
at the owner’s expense as well as a $10 fine by the police.

Also, no person nor entity, nor any agent, assignee, employee, contractor or servant of any such person or entity shall displace or remove snow or ice from private property so as to cause it to be placed, deposited or dumped upon any portion of the town’s street, ways, sidewalks or real property. Whoever violates the provisions of the bylaw shall be punished by a fine of $50.

Northborough – No person shall park a vehicle on either side of the street in the town between midnight and 8 a.m., until March 31. Northborough police will ticket offending vehicles; the fine is $50. Also, any vehicle left on a public street or way that interferes with the removal and/or plowing of snow and/or ice may be towed and stored at the vehicle owner’s expense.

Shrewsbury – The town has a year-round parking ban prohibiting cars from being parked on public streets from 1 to 6 a.m. Vehicles that interfere with removing of ice and snow from any public way of the town are subject to a fine, and the vehicle will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Southborough – There will be no parking on any public way in the town from midnight until 6 a.m.; and furthermore, there will be no parking on any public way during any snowstorm in the town. Vehicles parked will be towed at the owner’s expense (according to the town’s code). The ban will be in effect through March 15. Illegal parking during unusual storms occurring before or after the ban will be dealt with according to Section 152-6 of the Code of the Town of Southborough.

Westborough – Winter Park Ban through April 1, from 11 p.m. through 7 a.m. There is a one-hour parking limit on all town streets. Violations are $10, no exceptions. All parkable area along Main Street is one- or two-hour restricted parking.
