SHREWSBURY – The Shrewsbury Historical Society will be presenting “The Shrewsbury Charitable Society” on Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.

The presentation will be given by Tom Kelleher, who is the historian and curator of mechanical arts at the Old Sturbridge Village.

In 1832, several Shrewsbury women formed a Charitable Society and banded together to socialize and aid their neighbors who were less fortunate. The presentation – which is based on the work of the late Chief Historian at the Old Sturbridge Village Jack Larkin – will examine the work of the Shrewsbury Charitable Society during its first decade, its work and the women who founded it.

The meeting will be held at the Shrewsbury Historical Society at 17 Church Road.
