Belchertown – Gordon “Skip” P. Hamilton, 85, passed away March 28, 2024 after a long illness. Born in Marlborough, MA, on October 8, 1938, he was the son of Gordon and Astrid (Nordgren) Hamilton.

Skip graduated from Marlborough High School in 1957, and went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1961. He served his country in the US Army from 1961-1963.

In 1964, Skip began his teaching career on Martha’s Vineyard, and in 1966 took a new position in his hometown of Marlborough, MA. He taught junior high math, history, and social studies in the Marlborough School System for over thirty years.

When not teaching, Skip worked as a stone mason, and had his own business for a while. He was also a carpenter and wood worker. Not only did he build his own house in Templeton, MA, but filled it with numerous pieces of furniture that he had also built.

Skip had other interests as well, including gardening, fishing, and listening to music. One of his greatest loves was reading, especially works on philosophy, history, and religion.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Barbara (DiNardo) of Belchertown, daughter and son-in-law, Erika Hamilton and Robert Thrasher of Belchertown, and granddaughter Stephanie Thrasher of Amherst, as well as several cousins.

Services will be private. For those wishing, and to honor Skip’s love of books, donations may be made to the Clapp Memorial Library in Belchertown by visiting https://clapplibrary.org/donate/.
